1. Greetings from the New Director of the Center

This April 1, I was appointed director of the International Institute of Seismology and Earthquake Engineering,
succeeding former Director Dr. Azuhata.
Since joining the Building Research Institute in 1995, I have been involved in the work of the International Training
on Seismology and Earthquake Engineering (IISEE training course).

2. Publication of Masonry Experimental Database

Masonry experimental database has been released.
This is a database of masonry walls constructed with bricks and concrete blocks.
The masonry walls were classified into four types, as shown below.

3. Flower Viewing

On March 30 and 31, IISEE took group photos under the cherry blossom.
The weather was perfect for savoring the cherry blossom.
The cherry blossom is Japanese national flower, and it has a meaning of “Spiritual Beauty”.

4. Microtremors Observation Practice at Mt. Tsukuba (March 23)

On the afternoon of March 23, participants from the one-year seismology and earthquake engineering courses
conducted microtremors observation practices using seismometers from the Building Research Institute.
